My question for those who advertise with printed materials (aside from those who believe print advertising is dead):

Would you send out an advertisement (mailing, poster, etc) that is only in 3D?

Note: I reference the above article as an interesting piece to read — not to state one way or another that print advertising is dead. I believe it may not be dead, but there are more beneficial avenues.

    Regardless of whether its on its way out, Marketing will always evolve with new technology. I prefer print. It's easier to read, for me. I pay more attention to advertisments in print rather than on the web, and I hate tv commercials. And there's still a huge percentage of people who still don't use computers. So, I think print media/advertising has a huge place in business. Take a look at Kinkos Stock. Should still be going up. People are still printing flyers, , and business presentations. When I lived in Nashville, and someone was trying to advertise for a club or a band, they did it by way of printed flyer. Not every club and concert going citizen is going to get their information from the net. They need the florescent pink 1/4 page sheet in their hand to know where the $1.50 beers are for the night.

    @Chris:
    I would definitely agree with you - to me - simpler is better. With print, you eliminate many obstacles that you have with other media and advertisement. Not that they dont have their places, because web ads and TV ads are VERY profitable - but I seem to ignore most of them. If anything, I just evaluate TV commercials to different marketing tactics and elements.

    When I was thinking about this article initially - I instantly though of Flash and the web. So many people will use flash that simply put - gets in the way. If you are trying to get a message out on the web, WHY would you even think of going completely flash (unless you had an already strong market hold, audience, etc - flash is a tool and has its place). But think about it, you create a site in all flash - and not everyone will be able to view it. Not only that, it becomes blind to the search engines. Yes, there are techniques, or hacks, to get around most of this - but its obtrusive - it gets in the way. I dont want to come to your website and wait for all animations to load before I can even USE the site (see www.relientk.com). I dont want to watch your movies. I dont want to listen to your music, I have my own. What about usability? What if I want to print it? Bookmark a specific frame? etc - it just breaks so many things (when not built properly) - yet people continue to use it because its 'cool.'

    Personally, simple is better - especially when you are dealing with the web and the inconsistencies. Print is safe for the most part, you know what it will look like, its dimensions, etc - whereas a website will look differently, render differently, and sometimes function differently on different browsers.

    Ok, rant off...
