The first thing that came to my mind when reading Seth Godin’s blog entry regarding price, was the PC versus Mac argument. Now, I know the Internet is a place where everyone has a voice, but I have seen this argument abused all over the place (Engadget, Slashdot, Digg and miscellaneous forums). Why would you buy an expensive Mac when you could buy a cheaper PC or build your own PC? Well — I am a Mac convert, and have been for a few years now. I will never go back to the Microsoft world. Why? Because Apple products are worth the price to me for several reasons:

  1. They are simple yet beautiful looking.
  2. I can get everything I need built into them (Bluetooth, wireless, etc).
  3. Their OS is elegant, powerful, and intuitive. Very user-friendly.
  4. The Apple experience — everything just works, and works together.

These are just a few, but I constantly hear the argument from PC users that Macs are too expensive — but to me its not about price. Mac users are often referred to as lemmings, fanboys, and loyalists. I love the last one, they complain that Mac users are loyal. Isn’t that the goal of any company — to have a loyal consumer base? Users who will stick through them in the thick and thin of things? Users who will pay more for the convenience to use their products? These people fail to see that it is not all about the price.

The same could be said about vehicles. I could call you an idiot for buying a BMW when you could have bought a Honda Civic. After all, both can get you from point A to point B. Tell this to anyone who has driven or owned a BMW and you will get your answer.

Though more could be said, I will leave it with that.

Sorry for the correction, but it's Mac, not MAC.

Mac = Great computer made by Apple.
MAC = Media Access Control, the lower sublayer of the OSI data link layer, the interface between a node's Logical Link Control and the network's physical layer.

Changes have been made. I didn't think of it one way or another given the context, but you are correct.

    Thanks!

Well - You are some of the rare that I have run into online. Quite honestly, the last PC I worked on was WAY faster than any Mac I have worked on. It was built solely for video editing and literally screamed. Problem is, I just think the Windows interface is so ugly - and very annoying at times. OS X was a big reason that I made the switch.

I am not anti PC, I am just pro Mac :)

Fact is I didn't have the time, money and opportunity to test/buy/work on a Mac.

Apple might be worth the higher price to you, but to the vast majority of the computer owning public it's not. How can Apple be better when it’s market share is so small.

    I drive a BMW, and I also own a 20" iMac.
I have driven a Civic, and I own two PCs as well.
    BMW and Mac win...
